Former PM Manmohan Singh cremated with full state honours

The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh were consigned to flames at the Nigam Bodh Ghat crematorium here on Saturday with full state honours.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dr. Singh’s family members, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several other dignitaries paid their last respects to Dr. Singh at Nigam Bodh Ghat.

Among the foreign dignitaries who paid their last respects was the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Wangchuk.

Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of the former Prime Minister were kept at the AICC headquarters, where Dr. Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, and other family members paid their last respects to the departed soul.

Moreover, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other party workers paid their last respects to Dr. Singh.

The former Prime Minister breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on December 26 at the age of 92.

The Government of India in a Cabinet meeting held on Friday had declared state mourning for seven days. The Cabinet also decided to accord a state funeral to the former Prime Minister.
