Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Nana Patole on Thursday demanded that Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign as the government is trying to suppress the phone tapping case.
Speaking to newsmen at Vidhan Bhavan premises Patole said that, in the year 2016-17, when the Bharatiya Janata Party was in government in the state, the phones of people’s representatives, government officials and journalists were illegally tapped. Cases were also registered against IPS officer Rashmi Shukla in this case.
The ED government is trying to give them a clean chit when the inquiry committee has also found them guilty.
This case was when Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Minister and Home Minister and he is still the Home Minister, he said.
Patole said that the phones of people’s representatives, journalists and officials were tapped with different names. This is an attack on our individual liberties.
When Fadnavis was the Home Minister, he arranged the blackmailing. During the government of Mahavikas Aghadi, crimes were registered against IPS officer Rashmi Shukla, she was investigated, Ms Shukla also admitted that she was wrong, but as soon as the government of ED came to the state, work is being done to suppress the phone tapping case. Pune police filed a closure report in court but The court pointedly said that there is a need for further investigation.
Why is the government supporting these criminals when phone tapping is a serious crime,he asked .
