Kerala: Cochin Airport receives hoax bomb threat

Date:

The Cochin International Airport on Monday received an alleged bomb threat claiming that an RDX-based explosive had been clandestinely planted at the airport but after a thorough search, it was proved to be a hoax.

“A bomb threat message received to pro@cial.aero claimed that an ‘RDX-based explosive device has been clandestinely planted at the CIAL! Evacuate All by 2 pm,’ at 07.53 am from achimuthu_ahmed_shankar@outlook.com,” the airport sources said quoting the email.

Later, a meeting of the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was convened at 8.55 am to assess the situation. The BTAC instructed the CISF and the State Police to conduct anti-sabotage checks at all terminals. It was also decided to enhance the Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) for all southern flights.

The CIAL has also filed a complaint to state police on this matter and has informed all the concerned stakeholders.

The BTAC concluded at 9.06 am that the threat was non-specific.
