Lok Sabha passes Finance Bill, 2023

 Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Finance Bill, 2023 amid uproar by the Opposition over the Adani issue.

The Finance Bill which was moved Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was passed by voice vote without any discussion amid sloganeering by the Opposition members demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue.

As soon as the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 1200 hours, members from the Opposition benches trooped into the well holding placards and raised slogans.

Presiding Officer Rajendra Agrawal disaproved their conduct and asked them to go back to their seats. They defied.

“Please do not show any placard. Please go back to your seat,” Agrawal said to the protesting members.

Moving the Finance Bill in the Lower House, Sitharaman said, “It will benefit people.”

The FM also announced that a Committee headed by the Finance Secretary will be constituted on pension system to look into the needs of employees.

The Presiding Officer adjourned the House till 1100 hours on March 27 shortly after the passage of the Finance Bill.

Earlier this morning, the Lower House was adjourned till 12 pm on Friday amid sloganeering by Opposition over the Adani issue.

As soon as the House assembled, the MPs from Opposition raised slogans demanding JPC probe into the Adani issue.

“I appeal everyone to allow the House to function,” Birla said to Opposition members before he adjourned the House.
