Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar said the Eknath Shinde government is trying to help to soyabean growers amid reports of heavy damage to the crop due to shell snail infestation.
Interacting with the affected farmers in Latur on Sunday, Sattar said though this does not come under the purview of the NDRF, the government will follow up with the Center and will try to seek the disaster relief body’s help under the purview of Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance to provide more assistance.
Sattar inspected the infested farms in Castor and Shivra in Jai Nagar in Ausa taluka.
A committee has been formed to study to suitable remedial measures for conch snail which destroys soybean crop from sprouting up to one foot of growth, he added.
