Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, said he will order a probe into the increasing cases of planting of mines in Manipur border areas.
Replying to a call attention motion moved by Leishiyo Keishing,of NPF the Chief Minister told the House on Friday that a government team consisting of officials, Assam Rifles, state police, and CID will enquire into the matter.
As the matter involves neighbouring country, Myanmar the centre will be informed about the matter he said.
Leishiyo Keishing said militants from Myanmar were planting mines on the Indian side of the border especially Kamjong and Ukhrul districts and many Indian citizens have died as they stepped on the mines by mistake.
All human activities especially farming, and grazing of animals have stopped in the border areas which made the people in the border area miserable he said. They have no other means of earning money Keishing said and appealed to the government to stop the Myanmar citizens and militants plant mines on the Indian side.
Large numbers of blasts took place in between pillars no 91 to 94 he said. Many animals have also died, he further said.
The Assam Rifles is responsible for maintaining and guarding the border areas of Manipur and the Assam Rifles troops were concentrated in safe areas, he said. The Assam Rifles troops infringe on civil and forest activities by checking the movement of timber he said. Activities of state civil officials were taken over by Assam Rifles rather than checking the illegal activities at the border, he said.
