Manipur: Three held in counter-insurgency crackdown; arms seized

In separate operations in the last 24 hours, security forces in Manipur arrested three suspects involved in underground activities across the state, police said today, adding the arrests took place in Kakching and Bishnupur districts, while a significant cache of arms and explosives was recovered from a forest in Imphal East.

A suspect was apprehended from Sekmaijin Maning Leikai, under the jurisdiction of Hiyanglam police station in Kakching district. Officials said the individual was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting fuel stations in Kakching and Thoubal districts. A keypad mobile handset was seized from the suspect during the operation.

A second individual was arrested from a locality in Kakching district. One mobile phone was recovered from the individual.

Another arrest was made in the Meitram area in Bishnupur district. From the person’s possession, security forces recovered a diesel-powered auto-rickshaw and two mobile phones.

In a major arms haul, security forces uncovered a cache of weapons and explosives from the foothills of Andro Khuman (Baruni Hill) in Imphal East district.

Among the items recovered were a rifle with magazine, two pistols with magazines, a single-barrel firearm, and three hand grenades.

Additionally, two tube launchers, one 12-bore live cartridge, two rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a wireless set with charger, a high-explosive grenade, two arming rings, two detonators, and two safety pins were seized from the site.

Police sources said these developments are part of the ongoing counter-insurgency operations aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure and neutralizing threats to public security.
