MP: Two killed, one injured in Dewas road accident; villagers block road

Date:

Dewas, May 30 (IANS) Two persons were killed and another seriously injured after a car crashed into their bike in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas, police said on Saturday.

The tragic incident occurred near a railway bridge on the Shipra Bypass in Dewas district during the morning hours.

The incident led to a two-hour road blockade by angry villagers demanding action over alleged road defects.

According to police, a speeding car from Indore lost control on the bridge’s uneven surface.

The vehicle reportedly crossed the divider after skidding for nearly 100 feet and hit the motorcycle head-on.

Two persons, identified as Haider and Ansar, died on the spot, while Imran sustained critical injuries and was referred to a hospital in Indore for treatment.

Haider was thrown off the bridge and fell nearly 50 feet below. Ansar and Imran suffered serious leg injuries in the crash.

Soon after the accident, villagers gathered at the spot and blocked the bypass road for nearly two hours.

They alleged that poor road conditions on the bridge had caused several past accidents.

Villagers also accused authorities of delay in sending ambulances and said the victims were shifted to the district hospital in private vehicles and tractor-trolleys.

The protest caused long traffic jams on both sides of the bypass.

SDM Abhishek Sharma, along with other senior police officials, reached the spot and convinced protesters to vacate the road to allow smooth traffic.

People agreed after receiving assurance from the administration that the matter regarding road defects would be raised before the concerned committee for further action.
