Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday ordered a high-level administrative probe into the Wednesday’s firecracker explosion at Chandan Yatra festival in Puri, killing three people and injuring 30 others.
Chief Minister Office (CMO) sources said the Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management and Special Relief Commissioner will probe the incident.
Patnaik announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) for the next of kin of the deceased.
A firework display on the concluding day of 21-day Chandan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath at Narendra tank, claimed three lives while 30 others sustained burn injuries when one cracker missed the direction and landed on the pile of firecrackers causing a huge explosion in the area.
The injured persons were shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and the government-run SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack on Wednesday night.
The Chief Minister today visited the private hospital, met the injured patients, enquired about their health condition and prayed for their speedy recovery.
Patnaik discussed with the treating doctors and asked them to provide the best of treatment. He also met the family members of the injured persons at the hospital.
