As the battleline is drawn for West Bengal’s first phase polling on April 19, BJP’s electoral face and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are slated to address their party rally in the state’s farthest northern district this afternoon in a span of four hours, official sources said.
” I look forward to being among the people of Cooch Behar to address a @BJP4Bengal rally later today at around 3:30 PM.
” The people there have been greatly supportive of our development agenda and I am confident they will again place their faith in the BJP,” Modi said on his X handle before visiting here.
Incidentally. both rivals are fighting the electoral battle on
their respective strength as the TMC announced all its 42 candidates and the saffron brigade fielded 40 nominees in the seven-phase polling in Bengal.
The TMC, though a partner of INDIA Bloc, is fighting alone, and BJP
has no partner in its NDA fold.
BJP is yet to nominate candidates for Asansol and Diamond Harbour constituencies.
In 2019, the ruling TMC won 22 and BJP 18 and the two seats went
to the Congress.
In North Bengal, BJP won seven of the 8 seats.
This is the first time in this election season that Modi and Mamata
will be addressing their supporters of a constituency on the same day.
In the 2021 state assembly poll Modi and Mamata campaigned for their
respective party on April 6 in Cooch Behar.
Whilst Banerjee is scheduled to address her party rally around 12 PM at Gumanir Haat in Mathabhanga,
Modi would address the BJP rally at Rash Mela Maidan around 4 PM,
nearly 28 km away from Gumanir Haat.
Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri seats are going to poll on April 19.
