Intensifying the anti-drug campaign ‘Operation Dawn 2.0’, Arunachal Pradesh Police apprehended four alleged drug peddlers, including a husband-wife duo, in two separate cases registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act over the last two days.
Police also seized significant quantities of suspected heroin in Naharlagun and Nirjuli.
Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo on Sunday said that acting on a tip-off about drug peddling in Naharlagun’s Prem Nagar on Saturday, a police team led by Sub Inspector Sunny Hodong intercepted a husband-wife duo– Jomdam Ligu (32) and Kano Marde (24) and recovered 5.6 grams of suspected heroin from their possession during personal and house searches.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Peter Kamdak (19) in Itanagar, with the seizure of an additional 4 grams of suspected heroin from his residence.
In Nirjuli, an NDPS case was registered on last Thursday after a raid conducted by the Nirjuli Police team led by officer-in-charge Inspector TM Nekam at the residence of Dugi Bijoy @ Bhai (26).
Though the accused initially fled, police seized 8.48 grams of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, and Rs 15,900 in cash. The accused was later arrested on Saturday and produced before the Special Judge (NDPS) at Yupia.
The raids were conducted under the command of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo, and the active supervision of SP Mihin Gambo.
The SP said that Naharlagun Police remains steadfast in its mission to combat drug abuse and trafficking through sustained efforts and proactive measures in collaboration with the community.
