A major disaster was averted when the private security personnel doused the leaping flames of a branded food court before it spread to adjacent shops in the 3rd floor of Acropolis Mall in south Kolkata on Monday.
The fire noticed at around 10: 50 AM at the food court kitchen, was brought under control by the alert private security men using the fire extinguishing system of the Mall before the Fire Brigade personnel arrived and took control of the situation.
The blaze was spotted inside a Momo outlet and the staff used fire extinguishers to combat the flames.
The authorities have closed all the entry points to ensure the safety of the people. The Mall was evacuated and a safety drill was carried out.
The Mall at Kasba, was shut down for 49 days after a fire broke out on the 3rd floor on June 14 and was reopened on August 3 following a clearance from the fire department and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The fire on Monday occurred just five months after the June 14 incident.
