Protest over killing of women affects life in Manipur

Date:

A 12-hour strike imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) affected life in some parts of Manipur.

Naga-dominated areas experienced deserted roads and closed shops during a strike from 6 am to 6 pm, protesting the killing of Lucy Marem in Imphal East district on July 15.

Meanwhile, police said nine people, including five women, were arrested by the Imphal East District on Sunday.

To protest the killing, people also burned the house of a person allegedly involved in the killing.

The village authority also announced that all those involved in killing the woman would be ostracised from the village.
