Punjab Govt overhauls legal team

Date:

In a significant administrative move, the Punjab Government on Wednesday announced the continuation and appointment of multiple law officers in the office of the Advocate General (AG), tasked with handling the State’s litigation before Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

The comprehensive reshuffle and extension order includes 111 law officers across various designations, Additional Advocate Generals (AAGs), Senior Deputy AGs, Deputy AGs, Assistant AGs, and Advocates-on-Record, in both Chandigarh and Delhi.

Among those granted an extension is Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat, who has been serving as an AAG for Punjab in the Supreme Court.

Advocates Gaurav Dhama, Rajat Bhardwaj, and Rajesh Mahajan will also continue as AAGs in Delhi, while Advocate Vivek Jain has been newly appointed to the same rank.

Other key extensions in Delhi include Talha Abdul Rehman, Rishikesh Kumar, and Bhakti Pasrija, who will continue as Deputy Advocate Generals (DAGs). Prateek Krishan Chada and Tushar Sannu Dahiya have joined the legal team as new DAGs.

In Chandigarh, the government has appointed 18 new AAGs, 7 Senior Deputy AGs, 24 Deputy AGs, and 35 Assistant AGs, reinforcing its litigation strength across courts.

This reshuffle comes in the wake of changes at the top of the AG’s office.

Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi was appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab on March 30, following the resignation of Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh

Additionally, Senior Advocate Anu Chatrath has been appointed as Senior AAG, with her appointment formally notified today.
