Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm over opposition demand for JPC probe into Adani issue

Date:

)The proceedings of Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday, as the deadlock continued over the opposition’s demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe(JPC) probe into the Adani issue.

Soon after laying of papers, opposition members were on their feet demanding a JPC probe into the Adani issue and raising slogans.

After an uproar by the opposition members demanding a JPC probe into the Adani issue, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the upper house.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar also rejected Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge’s point of order against Rajya Sabha leader Piyush Goyal over the latter’s remarks on Rahul Gandhi. He said there cannot be a discussion in the upper House as he was a member of Lok Sabha.

Today is the last day of the session as it seems that the entire session would be a washout with the Opposition demanding a JPC on the Hindenburg report on Adani issue and the BJP demanding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s apology for his remarks on Savarkar and Indian democracy in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, several opposition parties, including the Congress, are taking out a ‘Tricolour March’ from Parliament House to Vijay Chowk alleging that “democracy is under attack” by the BJP.
