Rajya Sabha bids farewell to six members

The Rajya Sabha bade farewell to six of its members after completion of their tenure today.

The MPs represented Tamil Nadu in the Upper House.

However, one of the retiring members, P Wilson of DMK, was re-elected, and is expected to re-join the House tomorrow onwards.

Soon after the House met for the business of the day, Deputy Chairman Harivansh announced that the terms of M Mohamed Abdulla of DMK, N Chandrasegharan of AIADMK, Anbumani Ramadoss of PMK, M Shanmugam of DMK, Vaiko of MDMK and DMK’s P Wilson ends today.

On the occasion, MPs from different parties appreciated their contribution towards strengthening the democratic set-up and traditions of the country.

Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of the House J P Nadda, and many other leaders from different political parties lauded their work, saying they contributed meaningfully to the deliberations of the House.

“Each one of these members has contributed meaningfully to the deliberations of the House, bringing with them diverse experiences, perspectives and a deep sense of commitment to public service and democratic value,” said the Deputy Chairman of the House.

He also wished them good health, happiness, and continued success in their future endeavours on behalf of the House.

Union Minister JP Nadda said they provided valuable insights on different aspects, including policy, and other critical issues, which enriched the House. Congress Deputy Leader in the House, Pramod Tiwari, in the absence of Leader of Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, wished the retiring members good health, and hoped that they would continue serving the society.

Speaking on the occasion, one of the retiring members, Chandrasekaran said that during the last five years, he raised issues concerning the people of his state.

He also expressed satisfaction over his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, and thanked all the members for their support and best wishes.

DMK’s M Shanmugam also expressed similar feelings saying he worked for the welfare and betterment of the workers by becoming their voice in the House.

Shanmugam said that he is satisfied that he was successful in raising some of the important issues in the house during his tenure.
