As a promotional measure to step up milk production and procurement, Milma’s Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) will give out Rs 30 crore as additional incentive to farmers and the milk cooperative societies under it during the four-month period from October 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
The primary milk cooperative societies will receive an additional incentive of Rs 10 per each litre of milk procured from farmers. Of this, Rs 5 will go to farmers, Rs 4 to the cooperative societies, and rupee one will be credited as a share of the societies in the regional union.
The milk cooperative societies and farmers affiliated with ERCMPU in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts will benefit from the measure.
Earlier, ERCMPU had announced an additional price of Rs 10 per litre of milk for the period between August 11 to September 30 in the current financial year, amounting to a total commitment of Rs 12 crore. The newly announced incentive is meant to keep up this support for another four months.
The scheme is aimed at improving production and procurement to tide over the crisis in the dairy sector. Compared to procurement prices across the country, ERCMPU is giving the highest price to dairy farmers, its chairman, M. T. Jayayan, added.
