As complete chaos erupted in Rajya Sabha over the no-confidence motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Upper House was adjourned on Friday to now meet on Monday (December 16, 2024).
The members of the ruling party and the Opposition continued to protest leading to complete disruption in the House.
The House witnessed a massive war of words between Chairman Dhankhar and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge. While Dhankhar expressed displeasure over Opposition parties’ move to hold a press conference over the no-confidence motion, Kharge said that he was not in the House to listen to his praises.
Responding to Dhankhar’s often-repeated ‘son of farmer remark’, Kharge said he was the son of a labourer.
“I am farmer’s son…In no situation I will be weak,”Dhankhar said.
Kharge hit back saying, “If you are a farmer’s son, I am the son of a labourer.”
The LoP also accused the Chairman of insulting him.
“The Chairman who is not respecting me, how can I respect you. You are insulting me,” he said.
As both the Opposition and the ruling party remained steadfast in their respective positions, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar requested the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition to meet him in his Chamber to bring an end to the ongoing logjam.
