Secunderabad Railway Station upgradation progresses rapidly

Date:

The Secunderabad Railway Station, a major railway hub targeted for redevelopment with world-class amenities and a modern aesthetic, is witnessing swift progress

in its upgradation works.

The Ministry of Railways has entrusted the redevelopment project to M/s. Girdharilal Construction Private Limited under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 700 crores. The completion deadline for the project is set at 36 months, a SCR statement said on Friday.

To meet this ambitious timeline, construction activities have commenced on both sides of the existing station building. A temporary Booking Office on the North side has been erected to facilitate construction without disrupting passenger services. Additionally, the New Railway Protection Force (RPF) Building is complete, paving the way for the ongoing construction activities.

On the South side, nearly 80 per cent of the foundation work is finished, along with 80% of basement 1 slab work and 60 per cent of basement 2 slab work. The Ground floor on the South side is designated as the drop-off zone for departing passengers, while basement 1 will serve as the pick-up zone for arriving passengers. Basement 2 will provide parking for nearly 200 four-wheelers. A temporary road has been laid to ensure smooth vehicular movement during the construction phase.

Expansions on the South side involve a new and modern building, with 45 per cent of the foundation work, 45 per cent of the Columns work, and nearly 30 per cent of the ground floor slab work already completed. Two 33 KV Electrical Substations are under construction on the South side to meet the station’s power demands.

On the North side, progress includes the construction of a Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) with over 50 per cent completion in foundation, Columns, and Ground Floor slab works. Utility shifting for 25 per cent of the existing station building on the North side has been completed to facilitate redevelopment works. Simultaneously, a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) towards the Kazipet-end is underway, with foundation work completed on two platforms and ongoing work on others.

Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway, assured passengers that redevelopment works are meticulously planned to minimize inconvenience.

He emphasized that the new station building will showcase modern architecture and world-class amenities for rail passengers. Jain emphasized continuous monitoring of the project’s progress and instructed the construction team to prioritize safety measures in all their activities.
