A 24-member delegation from 14 political parties of Sri Lanka held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in the national capital today.
The delegation will be in India for two weeks and aims to further cement India-Sri Lanka partnership keeping in view neighbourhood first policy.
“A 24-member delegation of young political leaders from 14 political parties of Sri Lanka called on Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri as they began their two-week long programme in India,” posted Randhir Jaiswal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, on X.
“Foreign Secretary emphasised their valuable role in deepening the India-SriLanka partnership as stakeholders in its future roadmap. Neighbourhood First,” he added.
This visit follows after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “very productive” visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, a trip that prominently reinforced the island nation’s vital position within India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and ‘MAHASAGAR’ vision.
During his fourth visit to Sri Lanka since 2015, undertaken at the invitation of President Dissanayake, Prime Minister Modi held extensive talks with the Sri Lankan President.
Their discussions centred on deepening the special and close bilateral ties, rooted in a shared history and propelled by robust people-to-people linkages.
The two leaders undertook a comprehensive review of cooperation across various sectors, including connectivity, development cooperation, economic ties, defence relations, reconciliation efforts, and the persistent issue of fishermen.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated Sri Lanka’s paramount importance in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and ‘Vision MAHASAGAR,’ and reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to assisting Sri Lanka in its economic recovery and stabilization.
Following their productive talks, the leaders virtually inaugurated several significant projects, demonstrating tangible progress in bilateral collaboration.
These included the installation of 5,000 solar rooftop units at religious sites across Sri Lanka and a state-of-the-art temperature-controlled warehousing facility at Dambulla. They also virtually participated in the ground breaking ceremony for the highly anticipated 120 MW Sampur Solar power project, signalling a joint commitment to sustainable energy development.
