Former AICC President Sonia Gandhi would hit her first campaign in Karnataka by addressing an election rally in Hubballi on Saturday for turncoat Jagadish Shettar who is fighting the May 10 assembly election on a Congress ticket.
Shettar is contesting from Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency, which is a bastion of the Sangh Parivar for over three decades. A staunch RSS man and heavyweight BJP leader, Ex-Karnataka Chief Minister had joined the Congress after the ruling party denied him the ticket.
Shettar is pitted against BJP’s Mahesh Tenginkai in Hubballi-Dharwad Central seat. This fight has turned into a prestige issue between the two major national parties who are solidly campaigning for their respective candidates.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra have already hit the election campaign in a bid to come to power by overthrowing the BJP government in Karnataka.
May 8 is the last day for campaigning, and the voting is scheduled on May 10 and counting of votes on May 13. UNI BDN SY
