New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday led legislators in a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ on the premises of the Legislative Assembly as part of the festival of Independence under the resolve of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’.
Waving the national flag and shouting patriotic slogans, the marchers moved around in the forecourt of the Assembly and also paid respects to freedom fighters at their statues.
Commencing from the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and culminating at the statue of B.R. Ambedkar, the yatra served as a symbol of national unity, democratic values, and constitutional reverence, Speaker Vijender Gupta said.
“The Tricolour is not merely our national flag; it is the living heartbeat of our democracy and the sacred thread connecting every Indian to the ideals of our Constitution,” he added.
Speaker Vijender Gupta said that the symbolic significance of marching from the statue of ‘Father of the Nation’ (Mahatma Gandhi) to the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution (B.R. Ambedkar) is that this pathway within the Assembly grounds encapsulates India’s journey from freedom to Constitutional governance, reinforcing the values that guide the state’s democratic institutions.
He noted that as the temple of democracy in the national capital, the Assembly bears a solemn responsibility to champion justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all citizens.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Tricolour is not merely the national flag, but a symbol of our civilisation’s pride, a memory of the penance and sacrifices of our freedom fighters, and the unity of 140 crore Indians.
She remarked that it reminds us of the sacrifices of countless heroes whose struggle and devotion brought freedom to the country.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta added that on this grand festival of Independence, it is necessary not only to hoist the Tricolour, but also to pledge to fulfil our responsibilities toward our city and society.
“Just as the people of our nation fought unitedly to achieve freedom, every citizen must now contribute with the same spirit to make Delhi clean, beautiful, and green,” she said.
She emphasised that connecting with the Tricolour is not only about honouring the national flag, but also about strengthening our resolve toward our duties, responsibilities, and the unity of the nation.
Others present on the occasion included Delhi Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ravinder Indraj Singh and Chief Whip Abhay Verma.
