Former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Tara Chand and former Minister Peerjada Mohammad Sayeed on Friday rejoined the Congress at the party headquarters here, in presence of senior leaders KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh.
Welcoming them along with 15 other leaders , who have rejoined the party, Venugopal said, “We are very happy that they have rejoined the Congress. This is only the beginning ahead of the Bharat Jodo Yatra entering into Jammu and Kashmir.”
All those people believing that united India is the need of the hour will join this Yatra, he added.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra-led Congress MP Rahul Gandhi which started from Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari on September 7 will culminate in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to reporters, the former Deputy CM and the former Minister expressed their gratitude to the Congress high command for forgiving their mistake, and welcoming them to the party fold.
“I had spent my entire life working for Congress. I took the wrong step (leaving the party). It was my biggest blunder. I am happy that I have again returned to the party,” Tara Chand said.
Sayed said, “I made a mistake. I apologise to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. I have returned to my family after living outside for two months. I am thankful to the party for forgiving my mistake.”
He said that there is a need to make secularism strong in Jammu and Kashmir.
Among the 15 leaders, who rejoined the party include former MLA Thakur Balwan Singh and former MLC Mohammad Mujaffar Parray.
