One person was killed and another remained trapped after a six-storey under construction building near the Panchayat office collapsed in Bhadrachalam on Wednesday.
According to police, rescue teams recovered the body of Kameswara Rao at midnight on Wednesday. Efforts are ongoing to rescue Upendera, who remained trapped under the debris. Both victims are masons (Topi Mesties).
The building collapsed at 1440 hours on Wednesday. Upon receiving the information, District Collector Jithesh V Patil and Superintendent of Police Rohitraj reached the site and supervised the rescue and relief operations.
During the debris removal process, the pillars and slab of the ground floor collapsed further. Upendera, who was trapped on the ground floor, called for help. Emergency responders immediately arranged for oxygen supply with the assistance of the medical team. The rescue team also placed jacks under the slab to prevent further sinking.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway, police said.
