Three unidentified bodies found floating in Teesta Barrage

Date:

Three unidentified bodies have been recovered from the Teesta Barrage area in northern West Bemgal’s Jalpaiguri district, official sources said on Thursday.

“One male, about 25-30 years, was found at Singer Busty while the body of a female, aged approximately 40 years, was recovered at Nirmala Busty. Both the corpses were discovered 5 km downstream from Teesta Barrage. The body of another male, aged approximately 35 years was also recovered from the Teesta Barrage area on Wednesday evening,: the sources said.

Efforts to identify the bodies are underway, the sources added.

Severe flash floods, triggered by a cloudburst and the release of water from the Teesta Barrage alongside an outburst in Lake Lhonak at Lachen in North Sikkim, have inundated many downstream districts of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar districts of Bengal since Wednesday morning.
