Date:

West Bengal ruling TMC on Monday countered claims of Union minister Giriraj Singh, Suvendu Adhikari and other BJP leaders’ assertion that the Central assistance to various schemes to the state increased during the NDA-led government. The TMC’s reaction triggered when Adhikari in his post X thanked PrimeMinister Narendra Modiand Union minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj GirirajSingh for “substantially increasing the allocation of the Centralfunds to the State of West Bengal for the implementation of theCentral schemes.”” It is, by now, an indisputable fact that the BJP led Centre haswithheld a staggering Rs 6,907.15 crore under MGNREGS.Yet, here we have Suvendu trumpeting the supposed increase in fundallocation to Bengal during the NDA regime,” a TMC statement said. The Bengal ruling party said the BJP leader’s claim ” as if they’vedone us a special favor. So, let’s set the record straight, “the TMCsaid.” MGNREGS is not a charity; it is demand-driven by design. Under theAct, every person seeking employment must be provided work andrightfully compensated for the same,” the party added.” Bengal’s consistent position as a leader in terms of job cardholders and person days generated necessitates increased fundallocation“Bengal is not an isolated case in this matter; every state haswitnessed similar increases in allocation due to an increase in wagerates driven by the rising cost of living, ” TMC claimed.” Therefore, instead of making it seem like the Centre is being extrabenevolent, Adhikari should maybe start acknowledging the sweatand toil of the people of Bengal!,” the TMC concluded.
