A second encounter of the day broke out between militants and security forces in south Kashmir Tuesday evening, police said.
Police said the latest gunfight erupted in Khandipora Awantipora in Pulwama district when joint forces were carrying out a cordon and a search operation (CASO) in the area.
“During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” a police officer said, adding the operation is underway.
Additional forces have been rushed to the area to ensure a tight cordon in the village.
Another anti militancy operation is underway in neighbouring Anantnag district.
The gunfight at Semthan Bijbehara Anantnag raged this afternoon during a CASO and the operation is underway.
