Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said his party will contest the upcoming elections to the various local bodies in Maharashtra alone.
It may be mentioned that Mumbai’s civic polls as well as elections to various other local bodies in the state are expected to be held soon.
Talking to reporters, the Rajya Sabha MP said the INDIA bloc and Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances were for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls.
Talking to reporters, the Rajya Sabha MP said the INDIA bloc and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) were formed for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls held last year.
“We will contest polls to the Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur and other municipal corporations, zilla parishads and panchayats on our strength,” Raut said.
Raut said Sena (UBT) workers are demanding the party contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation polls alone.
Party chief Uddhav Thackeray will take the final decision after consulting the workers and leaders, Raut added.
He also pointed out that Shiv Sena has contested the polls on its own in the past.
Shiv Sena (UBT) is a member of the national-level INDIA bloc and the MVA in Maharashtra. The Congress and the NCP (SP) are the other partners of the MVA.
The MVA came up with a spectacular performance in the Lok Sabha polls, winning 30 of the 48 seats in the state.
However, it was decimated by the BJP-headed Mahayuti alliance in the Assembly polls last November. The Mahayuti won a landslide by bagging 235 of the state’s 288 seats.
Ever since the Assembly poll debacle, there had been much speculation of the UBT fighting the local body elections alone.
