Six persons were washed away in flash flood in a river due to heavy rain and hailstorm in Rampur Barkonia area of Sonbhadra district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Saturday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh said that 6 persons had gone to collect wood near Baitara nullah in Garwan village late on Friday night. “While they were collecting wood, heavy rain accompanied by a hailstorm started and the victims ran to take shelter. However, heavy rain caused flash floods in Baitara nullah and all of them were washed away,” he said.
He said that five bodies have been recovered by the police and other agencies so far, but a woman was still missing. “The victims. whose bodies have been recovered include Raj Kumari (40), Rita (32), Rajpati (10), Hirawati (22) and Vimesh (12). Efforts are being made to trace the missing woman,” he said.
