Four people were killed and eight others were injured when a tempo was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the Garhwar area of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a senior police officer said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Shankaran Anand said that the incident took place in the wee hours when the tempo going to May from Ballia was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
He said that four passengers were killed on the spot.
“Eight persons were injured in the incident and were taken to the district hospital, from where four were referred to Varanasi in a serious condition,” he said.
The SP said that the deceased were residents of May district and had come to Ballia to cook food for a marriage function.
“The incident took place when they were returning to Mau. Efforts are being made to trace the vehicle involved in the accident,” he said.
