UP: Temple priest battered to death in Sambhal

Date:

A priest was battered to death by unidentified persons in Chandausi area of Sambhal district here in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Wednesday.

Police sources said Roshan Lal Saini was a priest in ancient Shiva temple in Gaushala Road locality. “Roshan Lal was murdered on Tuesday night and the incident came to four when devotees reached the temple on Wednesday morning and found the priest dead,” they said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Chakresh Mishra said that Roshan Lal used to live in a cabin adjacent to the temple. “Prima facie it seems that the priest was battered with a blunt object like a brick while he was sleeping. Some food items have been found near the body of the deceased in the cabin which raises the possibility of some acquaintance committing the crime,” he said.

He said that two persons have been detained and were being quizzed. “The body has been sent for post mortem examination,” he said.
