Woman arrested with over 47 kg of ganja in Bengal

) In a major crackdown against drug abuse and trafficking, West Bengal Police arrested a woman with 47.5 kg of cannabis (ganja) and cash over Rs 41 lakh after raiding a house at Kristhipara under Memari Municipality Ward 1 in Purba Bardhaman, a senior officer said on Thursday.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Purba Bardhman, Arka Banerjee said

a team of personnel following a specific input raided the house on

Wednesday afternoon and arrested the woman, identified as J Sahani, and

recovered the illegal drug in packs and the Rs 41.5 lakh in

cash.

The drugs and money was hidden in a bunker of a goat shed, which was

covered with bushes and leaves in her house.The police officer said

the arrested woman used to sell ganza in packs of Rs 50 and Rs 100 as

she confessed about her clandestine operation in the rural Burdhaman.

He said the investigation was on to determine the modus operandi and

source of import of the cannabis.
