Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Mayawati on Monday said her party will not give ticket to mafia-turned-politician Atique Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen or any other member of his family for the post of mayor in Prayagraj.
Addressing a press conference at BSP state headquarters here, Mayawati said, “I would like to clarify that whatever facts are coming or emerging in the last few days in Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj situation has changed after Atique’s wife was named and she absconded.”
She said, “In such a situation BSP will not give ticket for the post of mayor in Prayagraj to Atique’s wife or any other member of his family.”
Mayawati said as far as the question of keeping Shaista Parveen in the party or not is concerned a decision will be taken after she is arrested by the police. “Once she is arrested by the police a decision will be taken on the basis of facts emerging at that time because the party is not above the law. The party has full respect for the law,” she said.
