Agartala, 19th September 2026 : An LDC employee of Gandachara Sub-divisional Hospital, identified as Jiban Chowdhury, has reportedly gone missing near the Dumboor Reservoir following Vishwakarma Puja celebrations.
According to preliminary information, Chowdhury went missing around midnight near the Mashghat area. His shoes, mobile phone and scooter were later recovered from the Nairaha Chowdhurypara area, raising concerns that he may have fallen into the reservoir.
Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, along with the Sub-divisional Disaster Management team and Civil Defence volunteers, launched a search operation after receiving information about the incident. The search continued throughout the night and into Saturday afternoon, but Chowdhury could not be traced.
A fire service official said the department received information from Banamalipur Fire Station and the Officer-in-Charge about a person being reported missing. Civil Defence volunteers were subsequently mobilised and rushed to the spot in a fire service vehicle.
“We searched throughout the night but could not find the body. We have been here all day today as well,” the official said.
The official further stated that an SDRF team from the 5th Battalion TSR was on its way to the site and would join the search operation upon arrival. Fire service personnel have also returned to the location to continue the operation.
As of 2 PM on Saturday, Jiban Chowdhury remained untraced, while the search operation in the Dumboor Reservoir area was continuing.
