Agartala, 17th March 2026: Police have arrested one person in connection with an assault and robbery at a tiffin shop in the Bonkumari area of Agartala. The arrest was made nearly one and a half months after the incident.
According to reports, the incident took place around 4:00 a.m. on January 25 at the tiffin shop owned by Prantush Saha in Bonkumari. A young man had gone to the shop to have tiffin. However, when he was told that the food was not yet prepared, an argument broke out between the youth and the shop owner.
The situation quickly escalated, and the accused allegedly assaulted Saha. The attacker then snatched Saha’s mobile phone and Rs1,200 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Local residents later rescued the injured shop owner and rushed him to a hospital, where he underwent treatment. After recovering, Saha filed a case regarding the incident at the Agartala College Tilla outpost.
Police from East Agartala Police Station also assisted in the investigation. Acting on leads, the police managed to detain the accused from the Renters Colony area.
Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, stated that the accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday. Police suspect that several others may also be involved in the incident and that the group could be linked to multiple snatching and criminal activities in the city.
Authorities have launched further efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected gang.
