Agartala, 29th October 2026 : The Tripura State Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections on Friday, as the state steps up its preparations for polls across 21 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
According to sources, the Commission has completed most of the necessary arrangements for the elections, which are expected to be conducted simultaneously across the state. The formal announcement of the poll schedule is likely to mark the beginning of the next phase of the electoral process.
State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty said the tenure of the existing urban local bodies will end on December 9, making it essential to complete the election process within the prescribed timeframe.
He said the Commission had already initiated the necessary preparations and expressed confidence that the elections would be conducted on schedule.

As part of the final preparations, a training programme for returning officers was scheduled for Thursday. The session is aimed at ensuring that officials are fully acquainted with their duties and the procedures required for conducting the elections in a free, fair and orderly manner.
The training programme will cover the proposed election schedule, the roles and responsibilities of returning officers, election-related event management, and the relevant Acts, Rules and guidelines governing the polling process.
Chakraborty noted that the exercise was particularly important for officials who have recently been assigned election responsibilities for the first time. Experienced officers will also benefit from the refresher session, which is intended to ensure uniformity in the implementation of election procedures.
Master trainers will conduct detailed sessions on different aspects of election management, explaining the applicable rules and instructions issued by the Commission. The initiative is expected to help returning officers handle their responsibilities efficiently and minimise procedural errors during the election process.
With the preparatory work nearing completion, the Commission is now expected to announce the poll schedule on Friday. The announcement will provide clarity on the subsequent stages of the electoral process for all 21 urban local bodies in Tripura.
