US officials advised Ukraine not to conduct major offensives in the southern or eastern directions this year because of Russia’s well-organized defence, The New York Times reported.
Ukraine is unlikely to have enough manpower to achieve success in the Donetsk People’s Republic after distracting Russia’s attention to the Kursk Region, the report added on Thursday.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia and launched an offensive in the Kursk Region.
Commenting on the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine had carried out another large-scale provocation, firing indiscriminately at civilian targets. The enemy will receive a proper response in the border regions of Russia, Putin added.
