Miguel Almiron and Fabian Balbuena scored second-half goals as Paraguay beat Nicaragua 2-0 in a friendly here on Sunday.
Newcastle attacker Almiron broke the deadlock just after the hour when he combined with Alejandro Gamarra before slotting a left-footed finish past goalkeeper Miguel Rodriguez.
The hosts doubled the lead shortly after when Gamarra again provided the final pass as he set up Fabian Balbuena to fire home from 12 yards.
The match was the last chance for Paraguay manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto to test his squad before South America’s qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup begin in September.
The Albirroja have not featured in football’s showpiece tournament since 2010, when they reached the quarterfinals in South Africa.
