Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin today sought
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support to host the Asian Beach Games
in Chennai and take steps so that the Union Sports Ministry give requisite
guarantees to be submitted to the OCA by September this year.
In a letter to Modi, he pointed out tge Prime Minister’s interest in encouraging
sporting activities and sought his cooperation and support to host the Asian
Beach games in the city.
He pointed out based on the request from the Tamil Nadu government, the
Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in its May 5, 2022 Administrative Council
meeting at Tashkent has accepted it at policy level.
It also said that the Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Welfare has to give
necessary permission guaranteeing free passage for the participants to these
games along with other guarantees.
Stalin said he already written a letter to the Union Sports Minister on May 23
stating that these guarantees has to be given by September this year to the
OCA and urged the Prime Minister to take necessary steps to get requisite
guarantees from the Sports Ministry.
He also thanked Modi for inaugurating the Chess Olympiad last evening.
