18 injured after bus carrying students, truck collided in west Japan

A bus carrying elementary school students and a truck collided in Nara Prefecture, western Japan, on Wednesday, causing at least 18 children to sustain minor injuries, according to local authorities.

The sightseeing bus carrying 34 fourth graders on a field trip and the truck had a minor collision at a national highway intersection in Kashihara city at around 8:55 a.m. local time, police said.

According to the local fire department, 18 of them complained of physical pain and illness, and their injuries were believed to be minor and not life-threatening. Two teachers from the school and a driver were also on the bus, but none of them were injured.

The Kashihara Police Station is investigating the accident.
