At least seven people were killed, and three others injured on Thursday evening after a trailer crushed a rickshaw in the Lodhran district of Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, the rescue department said.
According to a statement from state-run rescue organization Rescue-1122, the over-speeding trailer hit and crushed the rickshaw on the national highway in the district, and killed seven people on the spot, including a couple and their children.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the site, and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital. The medics feared that the death toll might further rise because the injured were in critical condition.
Local police said the ill-fated family was going to attend a wedding ceremony when the accident happened.
Police registered a case against the trailer driver, and started a search operation to arrest the accused, who managed to run away from the site following the accident.
