80 suspected drug offenders arrested in Singapore, youngest aged 14

Date:

The Central Narcotics Bureau of Singapore arrested 80 suspected drug offenders during an island-wide anti-drug operation from Monday to Friday, the bureau announced in a press release.

Among those arrested was a 14-year-old girl, the youngest in the operation, who is suspected of drug abuse, the bureau noted.

Investigations into all suspects are ongoing.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has raised concerns about the increasing number of new drug abusers arrested in Singapore in 2024, highlighting the continued issue of young offenders.

According to the Overview of Safety and Security Situation in 2024, released on Tuesday, more than half of the newly arrested drug abusers were under the age of 30. Notably, the number of offenders below 20 surged by nearly a third compared to 2023.
