Ban on Facebook, Instagram has nothing to do with trust between Russia, US – Kremlin

Date:

The ban on Facebook and Instagram (owned by Meta, banned in Russia for extremism) in Russia is not related to the trust between Moscow and Washington, companies must comply with Russian laws, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

“This is not connected with trust. This is connected with the implementation of the laws of Russia. And no matter what trust we have with the Americans, it will not free anyone from the implementation of Russian laws,” Peskov told the Life.ru news portal when asked whether the return of Meta to Russia is possible against the backdrop of the restoration of trust between Russia and the US.

Meta and other companies may return to Russia if they comply with Russian laws, the official said, adding that the requirement to comply with Russian laws also applies to YouTube.
