Bangladesh Unrest: 1 Killed After Petrol Bomb Hurled At Moghbazar Flyover In Dhaka

At least one person has been killed in a bomb-throwing incident at the Moghbazar flyover in Bangladesh’s Dhaka on Wednesday.  Several others reportedly sustained injuries of varying degrees and were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Police have cordoned off the area. The attackers fled immediately after the blast.

A sudden loud explosion reportedly caused panic in the area. The blast occurred at around 7.30 pm in front of the Muktijoddha Sangsad. The blast comes on Christmas Eve and just days after a Hindu man was killed in a mob lynching for alleged blasphemy.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Siam, an employee at Zahid Car Decoration, a shop located beneath the flyover. Police are currently at the scene.According to reports, Siam had stepped out to have tea when a crude bomb was hurled from the Moghbazar Flyover, exploding on the ground below. Cocktail bombs were hurled from the flyover. Visuals from the spot has surfaced.Emergency teams reached the spot soon after the blast and began rescue operations. The explosion reportedly occurred at a time when the market was crowded. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.
