Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby has appointed Allah-Maye Halina, the country’s ambassador to China, as the country’s prime minister, Chadian newspaper Al Wihda has reported.

On Wednesday, Chadian Transitional Prime Minister Succes Masra announced that he had tendered his resignation along with the transitional government following the presidential election in the country held in early May.

Mahamat Ahmad Alhabo, the minister secretary general of the Chadian presidency, read out the president’s decree about the appointment on national television, the report said on Thursday.

Halina is tasked with forming a new government as soon as possible, the newspaper reported.

Before being appointed as an ambassador to China, Halina served as the director general of state protocol under former President Idris Deby Itno, the deceased father of the incumbent head of state.

Chad’s presidential election took place on May 6. Interim President Mahamat Idriss Deby won the election by receiving 61.03% of the vote, while Masra got only 18.53%, the country’s electoral commission said.
