The first ever human to be implanted with a brain chip developed by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s company Neuralink made a post to social media platform X using the power of thought, Musk said in a statement.
“First ever post made just by thinking, using the Neuralink Telepathy device,” Musk said on Friday, in response to a post from the implantee, Noland Arbaugh.
On Wednesday, Neuralink released footage of Arbaugh, who is paralyzed from the shoulders down, operating a computer using the brain implant. Arbaugh described the technology as life-changing.
In his post on Friday, Arbaugh joked that although the social media platform banned him for thinking he was a bot while it was still known as Twitter, it welcomed him back to the platform as X precisely because he is a bot.
In January, Musk said that Neuralink implanted the in-brain device in a human for the first time. Neuralink aims to develop a comprehensive brain interface that incorporates a generalised input and output device to enable interactions with all aspects of the brain, Musk said. UNI/SPUTNIK AKS
