A 32-year-old Indian-origin man, Dasari Gopikrishna was killed in the US state of Texas during an armed robbery, officials reported Monday.
He was fatally shot during the robbery at a convenience store. Gopikrishna, originally from Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district, arrived in US only eight months ago.
The incident is said to have occurred at a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas on June 21.
The Consulate General in Houston said on Sunday: “Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian National Mr. Gopi Krishna Dasari, in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, Tx.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
“@cgihou is in touch with local family member & extending all possible assistance including through Indian Associations.” It mentioned Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Consulate in US and an official diaspora handle in the post on X.
With help from various Indian associations, the Consulate is providing all possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Gopikrishna’s remains to India.
The victim sustained critical injuries during the robbery and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning during treatment, media reports said.
Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old son. His death has deeply affected the NRI community of Dallas as there were outpouring of messages on social media.

After his hospitalisation, a person claiming to be his cousin even started a gofundme account to collect funds for GopiKrishna’s expenses abroad.
