Eight people lost their lives in a munition explosion in Yemen’s central province of Marib on Tuesday, reported the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.
Citing an anonymous source, the television reported that the explosion occurred at the house of a local arms dealer in the al-Hawi area of Abidah Valley in Marib, killing the arms dealer, his wife, and five children.
The other victim was a person trying to handle an explosive device in the house.
The explosion left the house in ruins, the report said, adding that preliminary investigation showed the blast was likely caused by mishandling the munition.
The civil war that started in 2014 has left Yemen without a centralized government to enforce gun laws, leading to easy access to weapons and munition for militias and individuals.
