SL air force training aircraft crashes, pilots safe

Date:

A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) training aircraft crashed in Wariyapola, located in the North Western Province, on Friday morning, with both pilots ejecting safely, according to a spokesperson.

Air Force spokesperson Eranda Geeganage said the aircraft was on a training mission after taking off from the SLAF academy in eastern Sri Lanka.

Geeganage said both pilots ejected safely, sustaining only minor injuries, and they were admitted to a regional hospital for treatment.

An investigation into the crash is currently underway.

SLAF operates an aging fleet, and earlier this month, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake told parliament that plans are in place to modernize the fleet in the coming years.
