Sri Lankan prez anticipates IMF visit in two weeks

Date:

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced that his country is anticipating a mission from the International Monetary Fund in two weeks, media reports said.

“In two weeks when the IMF team comes, we have to say that we will implement the agreement and give the next installment,” President Wickremesinghe told a rally in Homagama Wednesday.

“If not, we will have to say that we will change it. Then the installment will not come. Then the rupee will fall to 500 to the dollar.

“You have to decide this for yourselves.”

According to EconomyNext, interest rates in Sri Lanka have already begun to rise due to political unrest. Additionally, the rupee has somewhat declined.

Prior to this, President Wickremesinghe stated that Sri Lanka anticipated coming to a settlement with private creditors. UNI AKS SSP
